應變式稱重傳感器和測力傳感器不同:
自從電阻應變片誕生以后,在1939~1940 年間,美國麻省理工學院的Ruge DeforesTFF 等人,在研究各種實用應變計設計及讀出儀器裝置的同時,認識到電阻應變片可以作為一種特殊的應變測量裝置,用于指示和測量其他物理量,如力和裁荷、位移、流體的壓力及旋轉軸的扭矩等。它們具有尺寸小、蠕變小、很好的抗疲勞性能及很好的穩定性等。起初,DeforesTFF 采用硝酸纖維素(Duco)膠的紙基絲式應變片。1940~1941 年間用酚醛膠的紙基絲式應變片替代硝酸纖維素基應變片。1942 年完成了酚醛基應變片,從而,使電阻應變式傳感器性能有了進一步的提高。最早的電阻應變式壓力傳感器專利是由E.E.Simmons于1944年首先公布的。
